Felting

One object that came into the light of day after five years in a cupboard was this Franz Marc inspired horse made during a felting workshop. Now that's the sort of craft I favour - not a single needle was used in the manufacture. If I remember rightly there was a lot of back-ache. It's hard work felting.
I made it for my grandson who gallantly claims he isn't too old to have it in his room even now.

I use a thing called an embellisher now. It looks like a sewing machine, but instead it has 6 felting needles in a circle. They have little barbs on, so when you pass the fabrics under, the needles intermix them so to speak, thus felted without the backache.
Purse ache tho as machine is rather expensive and had to come from various Xmas and birthday monies.

Sorry meant to say Nice Work. old Picasso has an exhibition coming to the National soon where he works on old masters to make them his own, perhaps you should do more felt work, the colours in this are so good.

I agree. The colours are superb. Using your muscles to make felt is a real workout. I have seen the machines Chillsider mentions at the Harrogate Stitches and Knitting Show. There are some new car showrooms not far away selling cars at much the same price!
Keep clearing up and see what else you can find for us to admire.
Cheers Gillian

Thank you very much ladies for your encouragement.

The embellisher sounds amazing. This pic was made from hanks of died wool though and not sheets of felting. It's about 15" by 9" - would the machine still work?

I'm a bit of a Luddite when it comes to machines for craft - not that I disapprove, I just get in a terrible tangle with them, even a modest sewing machine.

Dyed wool - not died... this place gives no option for dealing with typos!
